Over the past few months, we’ve watched countless Small/Medium armies launch with excitement and ambition, only to eventually go on hiatus or shut down after struggling to find long-term enjoyment and representation within the current league environment. As the community has continued to evolve, one thing has become increasingly clear: the Small/Medium army scene deserves a space that truly represents it. Today, we’re proud to announce the return of the Small Medium Army League.

Founded by Yellow Typer and Midnight on August 8, 2025, SMAL was created with one simple goal: to provide an organization dedicated to the Small/Medium army community.

The league quickly became home to a growing number of armies, offering rankings, community discussions, events, and a place where smaller armies could thrive. That chapter came to an end when SMAL merged with the Club Penguin Army League. While that merger was made with good intentions, the past year has shown that the Small/Medium scene still benefits from having a league dedicated exclusively to its own community.

Before announcing this revival, we reached out to several leading figures within today’s 2026 Small/Medium army scene to gather their perspectives. Across those conversations, one message remained consistent: smaller armies often feel underrepresented, lack meaningful community engagement, and struggle to maintain long-term motivation. These challenges have contributed to an increasing number of armies entering hiatus or shutting down altogether.

The Small/Medium scene has always been one of the most important parts of the Club Penguin Army community. It is where new ideas emerge, rivalries are born, and future leaders are developed. The diversity of the Small/Medium landscape keeps the CPA community fresh and exciting, while its rich history and lore continue to inspire both the growth of existing armies and the creation of new ones.

With that in mind, SMAL returns with a renewed vision. Our goal is not to become another league focused solely on headlines, appearances, or media recognition. Instead, we want to build a league with community at its core. We believe armies should always come first because, without armies, there is no league. Every decision we make will be guided by the interests of the Small/Medium community and the people who make it what it is.

We also want SMAL to become the central hub for Small/Medium armies—a place where leaders and members alike feel supported, represented, and valued. We hope to encourage greater unity across the community by creating more opportunities for armies to interact, whether through battles, tournaments, game nights, community events, or other collaborative activities that strengthen the scene as a whole.

As part of this new generation, we also intend to revamp the Top Ten rankings. Rather than focusing primarily on perception, our rankings will place greater emphasis on army activity, event participation, and overall performance, creating a system that more accurately reflects what armies accomplish each week.

This revival is not about one administration or one organization. It is about the future of the Small/Medium community. Meaningful change cannot happen through a league alone. It requires the support, ideas, and participation of army leaders, members, and the wider community. Together, we hope to build an environment where Small/Medium armies have every opportunity to succeed, grow, and enjoy what makes this community special.

Registration for the Small Medium Army League is now officially open to all eligible Small/Medium armies. Whether you are a newly established army or a familiar name returning to the community, we invite you to become part of this new generation.

With the support of Small/Medium army leaders and their communities, we believe we can forge a new path forward—one built on representation, engagement, and community.
